ISGH facilities
city-wide conducts weekend Islamic schools, a venture supervised
by an Education Committee.
In his 2002 Annual Report to Shura, Education Committee Chairman
Tahir Hussain said: "Since it inception last year at the initiative
of Br Sayeed Siddiqui, the children education committee has worked
to standardize the Weekend Islamic School Education (WISE) curriculum.
After passing through several views and opinions, the committee
is able to develop a ‘first phase’ draft, which is a
broad concept based curriculum. This draft was recently submitted
to the Shura members and to the Weekend Islamic School principals
and zonal education secretaries for their input and comments. In
a recent meeting, some zonal educationists have provided constructive
input, which we are underway to incorporate in the draft after discussion
in the next meeting. Once the ‘first phase’ draft is
reached to finality, it will be submitted to the ISGH Shura for
their approval. In the final phase, the curriculum committee intends
to continue working to make expanded version of the curriculum,
which will include lesson plans based document.
The curriculum committee hopes that while volunteer teachers change
quite frequently, the standardized curriculum will provide continuity
and stability to the education process in Weekend Islamic Schools.
