What is ISGH

·        OBJECTIVES

·         To provide a platform for mobilizing our energies towards reconstructing an Islamic community in accordance with the principles of Qur'an and Sunnah. 

·         To provide a multitude of services for fulfilling the educational religious, social, economic and cultural needs of Muslim community in Houston.  

·         To provide our children and ourselves an Islamic identity in order to protect our community from non-Islamic environments; and  

·         To Present the Islamic Point of View

·        Largest Islamic community organization in USA operating 17 masjid and musallas in the greater Houston area

·        Democratic, open and accountable charitable religious organization managed by a Board of Directors that is elected by the Muslim members in the greater Houston area.  Local representation through self-managed Councils in each Center.

·        Four full-time Islamic Schools and a Islamic Montessori school

·        Quranic memorization (Hifz) & Reading program through Dar ul Uloom

·        Fully equipped Funeral operation with dedicated Muslim Cemetery

·        Major Zakat collection and distribution operation – distributed almost half million dollars in 2007 (over $40,000/month)

·        Organize Congregational Eid salats

·        New Muslim Support Group

 

·        Major Social Services

·         Free Medical services and health care in two clinics thorough its affiliation with Houston Shifa Services Foundation 

·         Free Legal service

·         Center for Senior Citizens

·         Recent recipient of major award to develop a Low Income Housing CHDO project to be operated by Houston Shifa Services

All this progress and achievement were possible due to the generous financial and moral support of the community. Every year hundreds of Muslim brothers and sisters contribute voluntary services for the community which amounts to thousands of man hours. May Allah bless them and all of us.

The spirit of a united and active community is essential for the preservation of our entity and identity.

Tax Exempt and Sec. 501(c)(3) Status of The Islamic Society of Greater Houston

The Islamic Society of Greater Houston (ISGH) was incorporated as a Texas Exempt Corporation on November 25, 1969. The file number assigned by the Secretary of State of Texas is 0026898201. The Taxpayer Number assigned by the Comptroller of Public Accounts of The State of Texas is 30000716578. The Certificate of Good Standing can be viewed on the Internet and the URL is http://ecpa.cpa.state.tx.us/coa/coaStart.html

The Islamic Society of Greater Houston (ISGH) is a Section 501(c)(3) organization. Contributions to this organization are deductible in the manner and to the extent provided by section 170 of the Code.

The IRS has classified this organization as described in Section 170(b)(1)(A)(i). Furthermore, ISGH is not a private foundation within ithe meaning of Section 509(a). IRS can be reached tollfree at 877-829-5500 to verify such classification.

ISGH has received such group classification under the umbrella of The Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) of Plainfield, Indiana.

The ISGH Endowment Trust Fund [WAQF] was established to make ISGH financially self-sufficient in the future. The primary responsibilities of the Trust are:
1. Raising community awareness of the need for an Endowment Trust for the ISGH,
2. Fund-raising for the ISGH Endowment Trust.
3. Managing the investments of the Endowment Trust.

Donations are added to the equity of the Trust and invested in profit making operations. All investment activities are performed according to the guidelines provided by the ISGH Majlis-al-Shura.

Once the equity of the Trust is more than $500,000, 50 percent of the profits will be disbursed to the ISGH treasury for use to meet predefined expenses, and the remaining 50 percent will be rolled over to further strengthen the equity base of the Trust.
